A Man Over the Congregation
The change-over from the leadership of Moshe to that of Yehoshua was very acute, and the differences between them were immediately apparent. Moshe was the "man of G-d" (Dvarim 33,1), while Yehoshua was "Moshe's servant" (Yehoshua 1,1). Our Sages (Tr. Bava Batra, p. 75a) compared Moshe to the self-illuminating sun, while Yehoshua was likened to the moon, which only reflects the sun's light.
